Candle Blessing

Blessings be upon thee, O creature of light!
Thrice blessed little herb!
Herb o' grease, with thy waxen stem and thy blossom of flame!
Thou art more potent against spells and terrors
and the invisible menace than fennel or dittany or rue.

Hail! antidote to the deadly nightshade!
Blossoming in the darkness,
thy virtues are hearts ease and quiet sleep.
Sick people bless thee, and women in travail,
and people with haunted minds, and all children.

(To be spoken when a new candle is annointed with oil, or when candles are being made -- when wax is being poured or the candle dipped -- preferrably on Candlemas)
