Worry Jar

Materials

  • Red Candle Stub
  • White candle
  • Representations of the Four Elements
  • Jar with lid
  • Slip of paper
  • Pen or pencil

Instructions

Light the red candle and sit quietly in front of it, thinking on your problem. When you feel you've thought the hardest you can, take the red candle out of the holder and send all that worrying energy into it. Pinch out the flame of the red candle.

Light the white candle. Write your problem on a slip of paper and pass it through the 4 Elements. Place the red candle stup and slip of paper into the jar and tightly replace the lid, reciting the words below:

Anxiety, from me now flee,
you are no longer a part of me.
Sealed up tight within this jar
Trouble me no more; not near nor far.

Your power's useless and I'll not grieve
'Til I take off the lid and to you cleave.
Until that time I'll not think my woe,
For unless the lid is missing, trapped is my foe.

Your power’s gone - I have no doubt,
I cast you forth and seal you out.
Days without thee I will see,
As I will it, so mote it be!

Leave the jar in the moonlight, but visible to yourself.

You are only permitted to worry about the problem if you go to the jar, open it, and take out the slip of paper and candle. Light the candle and repeat this charm, taking care to tightly seal the lid when you're finished.

Each time the problem sneaks into your mind, think of the jar. Tell yourself you'll allow yourself to worry when you can go to the jar and open it, and put the worry from your mind.

When the problem is resolved, remove the candle and slip of paper. Light the candle stub and burn the paper it, then bury the candle stub, giving thanks to the Lady for Her help.
