Lammas Supper Prayer
As we partake of this bread and brew,
we see the reflection of ourselves in the Great Mystery.
Take up the bread and know its grain
is but the seed's latest incarnation.
It grows to fruitfulness, is cut down by the sickle,
And in dying, gives up its seeds once again
From which new life springs next year.
Take up the brew and drink it,
And know it as the essence of transformation
From simple fruit or grain,
Changed to sparkling elixer.
As you eat, consider:
In every seed, in every grain
Is the record of times most ancient,
A promise of life renewed.
Each sip of the wine can bring us closer to the Mystery,
or farther away in abasement.
May the Ancient Ones of Power,
And the Ancestral Gods of Old,
Lay their blessings upon our meal!
