A Year of Moon Lore
January
Known as the Wolf Moon. Also known as the Old Moon.
Whatever the weather is like the first twelve days of January indicates what the weather will be like for the next twelve months, with each day equal to one successive month. If the New Moon falls on Saturday, there will be twenty days of wind and rain.
February
Known as the Full Hunger Moon. Also known as the Full Snow Moon and the Storm Moon.
A snowy February brings a good Spring, but a mild month means stormy weather. A mild, sunny February is a particularly bad omen, portending a stormy Summer.
March
The full moon in March is known by several names, including:
Full Worm Moon
Full Crow Moon
Full Sap Moon
Chaste Moon
If March weather comes in like a lamb, it will go out like a lion.
Early March is the traditional time to begin gathering three each of the nine sacred woods for the Beltane Fire.
The Nine Sacred Woods are:
Birch - representing the Goddess or female principle.
Oak - symbolizing the God or male principle.
Rowan, or Mountain Ash to celebrate life, as it represents the Tree of Life.
Willow, sacred to Hecate, is the tree of death. It represents a celebration of death.
Hawthorn - tree of purification.
Hazel - tree of wisdom. Add hazel to gain wisdow.
Apple - tree of love. Add apple wood for the magic of love.
Vine - tree of joy. It's juice capable of altering consciousness. Add vine for joy.
Fir - tree of immortality. Add fir to your Beltane fire for rebirth.

The origin of the Christmas tree is generally ascribed to Martin Luther of Germany, the 16th century reformer. But the German word for the Christmas tree is not Kristenbaum, as might be expected if that were true, but Tannenbaum, a word obviously related to Tinne or Glastin, the sacred trees of the ancient Celts.
