The Element of Fire



Fire is the most primal of elements, the element of will, passion, change, and intensity; the essence of all forms of magick, since magick is the process of change, itself. It is the desire and will to manifest the idea, the driving life force, the principle of transformation.

Fire is the essence of sex and passion. It is not only the "sacred fire" of sex, but also the spark of divinity which shines within us and in all living things. For this reason, Fire is at once the most physical and spiritual of the elements.

Fire is the most active of elements, representing motivation of all sorts - the Will to create or to destroy, to move towards something, or just to move for the sake of moving. Fire emotions are intense and urgent, but they usually pass quickly: desire, anger, joy, panic. Without Fire to prod the other elements along, the world would could settle into an uninteresting fixed state.

Fire is masculine and rules the South, the place of greatest heat. Its color is red, and it's season is Summer. Its rituals involve energy, authority, sex, healing, destruction (of negative habits, disease), and purification. Candle magick is ruled by fire.
