Generic Circle Casting
Sweep the area clean with the broom. It goes without saying if your area is populated with dust bunnies, take a regular broom to it first! You can switch, then, to your circle broom (if you use one) to sweep out the negative in the area.
- Place the candles at the four cardinal points. Marking the four corners in this way forms a square. The square represents the physical plane of Earth.
- Sprinkle sulphur around the perimeter of the circle saying,
Next, place the stones around the circle. The candles should stand INSIDE the circle of stones. The circle represents the Goddess. It is power and protection; there is neither beginning nor ending.
Note: You can leave space between the sulpher and the circle of stones to draw runes, sigils, or other power symbols if you wish. This can be especially useful if you're casting a circle in preparation for spellwork.
Arrange the altar in the following fashion: (imagine below from left to right, and back to front)
Light the incense and the two silver candles.
Plunge the knife tip into the bowl of water, saying:
Touch the knife tip into the bowl of salt, saying:
Face East at the perimeter of the circle. Draw the circle with the knife point, walking clockwise, charging it with these words:
Call The Quarters
Invoke the Goddess
Standing in front of the Goddess Candle, light it while saying:
With sword, athame, or wand upraised, declare THIS CIRCLE IS CAST
East: Yellow (traditional) or sky blue (my preference)
South: Red
West: Sea-green or deep blue
North: Green or Brown (depending on season)
All ye who would do us harm, take note!
See the sulphur... know how it burns!
Cross not this fire... Our circle is protected!

I consecrate and cleanse this water
In the name of the Goddess and Her Consort.
I bless this salt
In the name of the Goddess and Her Consort.
Here is the boundary of the Circle of Stones
Nothing but love shall enter in
Nothing but love shall leave
This I charge in the name of the Goddess and Her Consort
Stand facing EAST and say:
Oh Watchtowers of the East
Ancient Guardians of Air
I do summon, stir, and call thee forth
To charge this Circle with your power!
Move to the SOUTH and say:
Oh Watchtowers of the South
Ancient Guardians of Fire
I do summon, stir, and call thee forth
To charge this Circle with your power!
Move to the WEST and say:
Oh Watchtowers of the West
Ancient Guardians of Water
I do summon, stir, and call thee forth
To charge this Circle with your power!
Move to the NORTH and say:
Oh Watchtowers of the North
Ancient Guardians of Earth
I do summon, stir, and call thee forth
To charge this Circle with your power!
Blessed Lady, Mother of us all,
Descend upon me this night in all your radiant beauty.
Envelope me in your loving arms, and
Bless this rite I perform in your name.
